*PLEASE CHECK OUT MY OTHER RARE PAT BENATAR AND LAURA BRANIGAN VIDEOS ON MY CHANNEL!*

I recently bought Pat's debut 'In The Heat Of The Night' (1979) album, and I'm wondering if I'd consder it her best album.

Nonetheless, for me, it's a toss up between this, 'Wide Awake In Dreamland' (1988) and ' Crimes Of Passion' (1980).

Please enjoy!

(btw, this was recorded live at the US festival, 1982)

LYRICS:

In the heat of the night, when you know it ain't right

But you do what you wanna do

You do what you feel, 'cause no one can feel

Like you

Out in the summertime city, ain't it a pity

There's so much to tie you down

You're leaving tonight to somewhere you can't

Be found

While down at the edge of town

At a pool hall where they all hang around

You can hear them talkin' about the girls they knew

And talkin' about what they're gonna do

Then you ask yourself, is this where you belong?

Is it right, or is it wrong?

Does it matter what's right

In the heat of the night?

Out in the streets tonight, under the neon lights

You're searchin' for something new

But nothin' is real, and no one can feel

Like you

They say, eagles fly in this red hot sky

But were they just passin' through

Or did they look down, and see what you've found

Was true

But still in the back of your mind

You've got somethin' to believe in, but there's so much to find

As the bright lights dim, and the night closes in

You thought everything is ending, but it's yet to begin

And you ain't seen nothing yet

But what you see you'll never forget, and you'll say

Did it take you so long to want something more?

And did you never get off on this before?

Well, here it is the love you've been waitin' for

Standin' in front of you like an open door

And then you ask yourself, is this where you belong?

Is it right, or is it wrong?

Does it matter what's right

In the heat of the night?

In the heat of the night, when you know it ain't right

But you do what you wanna do

You do what you feel, 'cause no one can feel

Like you

People change their minds how they want to live, appear, perform, work, play, etc all the time. Artists are not different. It's her life, she makes the decisions. Sorry if it didn't go with what you wanted or expected. It's a tuff life isn't it?

In the original of the album by Smokie Bright Lights And Back Alleys of 1977, how can you just such a great song to sing as a stigma

Old leopards change their spots. After this gorgeous sensual dare I say sexual performance she claimed she wanted to be regarded as an artist not a body. My own view is that a truly free society women would relish being regarded as sex goddess.

Tropico, my all time favourite, has some great tracks and some awesome PB vocals.

Pat Benatar is one bad-ass pixie! Like someone else said, she and Ann Wilson of Heart are the two best women voices of rock

Yes In the Heat of the Night was her best album. Later albums had way to much "wall of sound" and not enough Pat. I've seen other singers ruined by what amount to horrible recordings. I had the great fortune to see Pat in Lakeland, FL in what was probably 1980/1 and well remember what a beautiful singer she was in person. It was sort of a make up concert for her collapsing on stage the year before and she really gave it to us. Love her forever!

Yeah, I was there as well (notwithstanding my SN as that is the date of the Beatles Abbey Road crossing pic). This was the first US festival. I think it was the second day and the second to last show of the evening. I'm pretty sure Tom Petty was on deck at the time. I think the event took place in Devore just outside San Bernardino.

Yeah, I was there! I went to both US Festivals. I believe this was from the 1st one as I recall it was much mellower in the crowd. I remember this song the most from all the others, because it was her most Sexy song she had from that album. At least for an 18 year boy who had Pat dreams like the most of us. I remember being she came out right when the hot sun was going down and by the time this song came out it was pitch dark, but was a perfect night in May. To go back to 1982. Thank You!
