PAT BENATAR BEFORE SHE WAS DISCOVERED AND BECAME FAMOUS ROCKER!

In 1974 while living in Richmond, VA, Pat briefly joined local band Coxon's Army. Together they did PBS TV Special but it was not broadcasted so they realeased sound recording of it as "COXON'S ARMY live from SAM MILLER EXCHANGE CAFE". Just a few hundred copies of that album were reportedly pressed and only part of them actually sold. Pat and Phil Coxon drove copies around to local stores hoping they'd sell on consignment. Very few did. In stores where they were "selling" they ended up under the counter collecting dust until the late '70s when Pat came in and re-claimed them. The rumour was she destroyed those remaining in stores to keep them from turning up and embarrassing her or her record company. (In 1977 she signed to Chrysalis Records and in 1979 she released her debut album "In the Heat of the Night"). That Coxon's Army album wasn't well received locally, and for the most part, only friends and people who hung out at Sam Miller's Exchage Cafe where the band was playing bought copies. Roger Capps, member of Coxon's Army, became one of the founding members in Pat's rock band when she signed with Chrysalis, and remained her bass player and occasional songwriter for the band until 1984.

You almost can't connect the voice we all know to her early work. Still magnificent & with that attitude.

WOW, What a difference in her voice. I'm glad she switched styles. But nice to hear her from the start. Just to see how she progressed. Thanks so much for sending.
