No Surf Music

#FridayFun features the greatest songwriter who ever lived, Woody Guthrie, who died 47 years ago today. Just last night, I was discussing how The Columbia River Collection was one of the most impressive accomplishments in musical history, 26 songs written in 30 days, and all funded by the Works Progress Administration. That's right, FDR paid for this song. We could use a little bit of that kind of vision today. #RIP, Woody.

Guthrie was hired and paid by the government to write this and other songs (i.e. Roll on Columbia) to promote the destruction of beautiful landscape and construction of dams across America. How is he any different if not worse than anyone else? He definitely beat fascism when he sold out and wrote these songs to sugarcoat what was happening. This isnt some tragedy, but just what seems to be another hypocrite. SOmeone enlighten me...

1 Pastures of Plenty - Woody Guthrieこれが2 Ennio Morricone & Peter Tevis - Pastures of Plentyこれになって3 (STEREO) A Fistful Of Dollars by Ennio Morriconeさらにはこうなるという、モリコーネの変奏の流れ。これは1の主旋律に2の伴奏を乗せて、その伴奏に3の主旋律を乗せることによって1と3はまったく別の曲になってしまった、ということかな?

It's a great song made greater by Odetta's immortal rendition, which gives the song the intensity it deserves.

thank christ for woody guthrie. music these days leaves you completely incapable of responding to the world with even a glimmer of emotional maturity. i hope to see music return to something a bit more credible in my own lifetime.

Songs that observe suffering and human adaption just don't make the young folk think these days!

Trouble is that you can't dance to his music. Also, you have to listen to the lyrics. In both cases, you have to use your brain and an awful lot of people don't like doing that. Yes, it's very sad but it's nothing new. God bless you for being as you are.
