Video from the end credits of the movie "Passchendaele" directed by Paul Gross (2008).

The Battle of Passchendaele was one of the major battles of the First World War, taking place between July and November 1917. In a series of operations, Entente troops under British command attacked the Imperial German Army. The battle was fought for control of the village of Passchendaele (modern Passendale) near the town of Ypres in West Flanders, Belgium. The objective of the offensive was to achieve a breakthrough, outflanking the German Army's defences, and forcing Germany to withdraw from the Channel Ports. The offensive also served to distract the German army from the French in the Aisne, who were suffering from widespread mutiny.

************************************************

After the guns are silent

After your wounds have healed

After those crosses have been planted in all those fields

After that long boat ride

All the way across the sea

And after this train carries thee

Chorus:

I will love you after the war

I'll love you for always, forever more

I will love you after the war

Forever, for always, and more

After your boots dry

And the tobacco's all but gone

Along with all those postcards you've carried under your arm

After I remember all the words I couldn't say

And after this long night fades away

I will love you after the war

I'll love you for always, forever more

I will love you after the war

Forever, for always, and more

After this blackbird

Lifts up from off your chest

After your soul takes its final rest

My love, I forgive you; you never planned to die

And Love, I'll place two pennies over your eyes

I will love you after the war

I'll love you for always, forever more

I will love you after the war

Forever, for always, and more

when a commanding officer (I believe a major?) saw the battlefield which these fights were fought, remarked "god, did we really order men to fight in this?"two german machine gunners are noted for remarking to each other "see those troops, they fought like lions" the other nodded and said "Yes, but they were lions led by donkeys"

Watching the film made me sad and to think we still let the filthy scum in government get away with creating this kind of hell. Every pig that votes for war should be made to fight them, the phucks wont be so quick to want to destroy and kill. Lovely song even tho sad

There will never be an end to war. We will kill for religion, national pride, race, creed, land, food, on and on. There is no beauty or glory in war. And when the decision is made to go to war, it will be the man in the trench, foxhole, at the tip of the spear that will see it's ultimate horror. Paul Gross's film, IMO, gets across the point of war's stupidity and also war's eventuality. Sad is the human race, so much beautiful potential and base actions. Bless the dead and may the politicians, Kings, presidents, CEOs, ministers and such all fill the trenches of the next one.

growing up and listening to the stories my father and grandfather told me even the stories my grandfather told me about my great grandfathers time in vimy and passiondale there ordeal and the physical and mental exhaustion and experiance each soldier went thorugh in war and the battles that followed i did not understand then but i do now,now that i have been in the same situation and done what so many soldiers and volunteers did before me i have seen the raviges of war and the horror it brings and what it does to people but i have also seen the the beautiful side im not talking about the fighting and killing, im talking about how people can over come there diffrences and help each other even in a disaster such as war the ones who where once enemys change for the better and help rather then hurt them, but war will alway be hell and where good people die and it will alway leave a mark in the hearts of loved ones on both sides we may not be able to change what has all ready happend but we can chage the out come of the future not for us but for our childrens future may they never be forgoten and always be rememberd as hero's who gave so much for so little - Capt m trautman USAF

This video made me - a 29 year old man - cry. God bless those wonderful men. If I could only have had the chance to thank them for their sacrifices. Never forget them. Never!
