It's not as distorted because they are using Vox amps. The Darkness uses Marshall and Randall. There's a difference. High gain amps are called high gain for a reason. If you've ever been to a rock/metal show, you'd know that achieving that distortion is easy. Yes, studio and live will never be the same, but if the gear isn't meant for it, it can't happen. Plus, live shows like this is recorded through the soundboard that has the amps mic'd. You are hearing exactly how the amp would sound mic'd.
