Well, if they haven't changed or evolved much it's still okay for me. I LOVED Sorrow and Extinction so much it just made me crave more. Time to see if this one delivers.

Sometimes not stretching out your sound is a good thing. Actually, very often it is. Pallbearer do doom very very well.

Saw them live a few months ago, they're actually local. Loved every minute of that concert and would kill to see them again.

I consider both Pallbearer albums some of the best albums I've ever heard. Top 10/20 and I've listened to over 1,000 albums of many genres. They are so melancholic, but at the same time showcase that even in the darkest - darkness, there is a light.

I honestly don't know how anyone can't see that this album is an absolute masterpiece. 10/10.

This album is the most addictive cd I've listened to since Mouth of the Architect - The ties that blind. It took me after a 2nd listening how awesome this is. I'm very glad i started with this album first. To me, this is incredible from beginning to end despite no keyboards but pull off an epic doom album nonetheless . The first album though, is much more basic....good but nothing epic however you have to start somewhere.Solid 5 star album. I can't wait to see this band live.

First, I'm not so sure your list of influences really stick. They don't sound a lot like Saint Vitus and Black Sabbath, especially on their more melodic songs--where they really shine. They really tend more from the side of bands like Candlemass,Katatonia, October Tide, Solitude Aeturnus, and While Heaven Wept. Second, your "it's not varied enough" review is very dismissive. For a doom metal album, this is actually quite varied. You sound like the guy who says all Dixieland Jazz albums sound the same or all rap albums sound the same. If you listened to a lot of metal, you'd see just how unique and varied they are. Maybe you just don't like doom metal. But then again, you stick to safe, NPR-type metal albums like Pallbearer and Deafheaven and don't dig much deeper than that. I love Pallbearer, but there's tons of doom metal you're missing out on here because it's not on PItchfork.

Think you totally missed the mark on this one Anthony. It's a major GROWER. I think you need to listen to it a few more times.

Not a fan of the critique. As a guitar player, the layers here are simply amazing and the fact they can play this slow and keep you engaged is amazing. To your point, I think they'll need a producer change to pull them into an area they feel a little uncomfortable so they can progress.

Slow, melodic tracks is what makes doom. On "Watching from a Distance" Warning got that right. On "Sorrow and Extinction" Pallbearer got that right. This review seems bound by a misconception of what doom is.

Wow. I've never wanted to punch anyone in their face as much as I want to punch this Steve-O looking cocksmoker. Go kill yourself.

The album isn't meant to be broken down song by song, its more of a novel rather than a collection of short stories. The album strings together and is meant to be listened to in its entirety as all the songs play off of each other. If you review an album you should review it in comparison to its genre.
