Definitely the best guitarist you ever had working with you Mr. Osbourne, not to mention a freaking legend - this guy in my opinion is on equal footing but in a different genre with Jimi Hendrix. He had all those chops, song writing ability and died by the time he was 25, I think I barely knew how to wipe my bottom by that age. He was almost 3 years younger than Hendrix when he passed on, and that was atrociously young. I am not old enough to have known Hendrix in my life, but I was blessed to have lived when Rhoads was performing and hearing his tunes, well yours on the radio when they were coming out. This guy carved most of the meat off the bones of heavy metal guitar playing and left the legions after him fighting over leftover scraps in their attempts to add more distortion, drop D tunings, or ridiculously fast riffs with no soul - Despite the fact there are 14 yr. old girls on youtube that can seemingly replicate Randy Rhoads riffs, the fact remains - they weren't around in '80-'82 when it counted, they didn't revolutionize a new genre of guitar playing in a way similar to Hendrix, they didn't influence a whole generation of guitar players, and they don't have song writing ability. And while most everyone is trying to replicate Randy's tone, which is impossible without his fingers, Randy wasn't trying to copy anyone - he was only trying to out better himself. Wish to god he hadn't gone up in that plane and we might have all heard that wonderful 12 string classical guitar music he could have offered up the world dishing it out live in small intimate coffee house settings across most cities.
