Y'know, I see this song get a lot of flak at times for being more aggressive and "sexy" than Adam's other songs... but I've always interpreted it as resisting temptation. The narrator recognizes that this woman is all he wants in the flesh, but ultimately he realizes that her love is detrimental to him and his soul, like a drug. It's not the kind of pleasure he really wants deep inside, so he's running before he runs out of time, to die another day. He knows that she's a master of disguise (Satan is also known to disguise himself and is a master of deceit). There are also multiple references to foxes, which the Devil is commonly referred to as (Jesus also refers to Herod as a fox). In the end, I think the narrator realizes the truth of Proverbs 31:30. "Favor (other translations say "charm") is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised."...I wonder if I'm the only one who hears the song this way?9 years ago
