We were excited to see what song Owen Pallett--a.k.a. Final Fantasy, a.k.a. string arranger for Arcade Fire, among others--would choose for Undercover, because pretty much anything was guaranteed to turn out radically different from the original (and gorgeous). He grabbed "Game Of Pricks," from Guided By Voices' classic 1995 album Alien Lanes. Turns out he was a big GBV fan back in the day, but didn't realize until recording this cover that the song features the line, "Weep to water the trees." Pallett's latest album is the terrific Heartland.

That's why it's a cover. omg. It's not supposed to be identical to the original version. There's nothing wrong with preferring an original and I tend to be in the camp that believes the original version of a song will always be superior because it's being performed as the artist intended. Just like I may not know much about GBV, I'm guessing you don't know much about Owen Pallett. It works both ways. He translated their song into his musical style which, yes, is different.

There's nothing wrong with people have different definitions of fun yes. but there is something very wrong with this cover. he took a song that was well written in EVERY way and couldn't pull it off in the slightest. Basically you dont know enough about gbv too even grasp what your dealing with here.. they are bigger than god and deeper than hell.. do not fuck with them! please stop your own irrelevant moral crusade.. go buy devil between my toes and work your way up - rethink your life

Yes, because using a woman's body part to insult someone is a perfectly good thing to do and a wonderful way to conduct an argument. Owen's music may not be for everyone but there's no need to be rude about it. He's very talented and if you know anything about string composition, you can see that.

There's nothing wrong with people have different definitions of fun. Owen is a soft spoken, openly gay, string musician. I CANNOT IMAGINE why he might be uncomfortable at a loud drunken concert where people were getting pushed around. But in all seriousness, just because he wasn't a fan of the live atmosphere doesn't mean he didn't get it. People have different tolerances for those kind of environments. I love a lot of punk bands but would have a panic attack at one of their live shows. haha

Uh, excuse u. Rude. Owen is one of the most talented musicians in music right now, and is behind a lot of the orchestral arrangements of popular and famous bands. To say his music is bullshit is highly ignorant statement and just because he wasn't a fan of their live concert atmosphere doesn't make him a bad person.
