Just looking at my "Roger The Engineer" vinyl sleeve notes which state:...'Over Under Sideways Down' was written in the studio. The riff is totally based (not to say ripped off) from Bill Hailey's 'Rock Around The Clock'. They were simply messing around around with the tune, and almost before they knew it, it had transformed itself into a Yardbirds number; the words were added on the spot, and the whole thing laid down in one take. That's the sixties for you.

On this Day In Rock History:11/23/66 Yardbirds play the Civic Arena, Pittsburgh, PA with Cher topping the bill. With the Yardbirds strides are taking place on guitar. They are playing live in 1966 era London and make a jump to a USA Winter Tour. Jeff Beck did not like the bus "Caravan of Stars" thing much. In fact it got on his wick. Regardless, Jimmy Page was on bass and Jeff Beck on Guitar. Chris Deja was on guitar and made the switch to bass and Page switched to guitar within a week of joining. In this TV show Jeff Beck had already quit the group, and Jimmy Page is on a classic Fender USA made Telecaster, it's not bad. The recording equipment sucks back then... but it's great anyway. Too much emphasis on the lead guitar players in the Yardbirds. A band is not what the LGP does. This band is tight, the songs are great and the bass line, drumming and vocalist all come together well. Can we just say "Great band and great song(s)?"

Lead singer Keith Relf died in an accident in May 1976 at the age of 33.Relf was 33 when he died from electrocution, at his home, while playing his improperly earthed (i.e., grounded) guitar. At the time, Relf was rehearsing new material for the regrouping of the original Renaissance line-up, called Illusion.
