@Groongers no, it started when gaahl and king left gorgoroth they setted up a band: god seed. but gaahl then announced that he retire from the black metal scene, so king asked shagrath for the band and they renamed god seed into ov hell

By progressive I also meant they don't try anything new. Look at Enslaved for instance, there is a huge difference between 'Frost', and 'Below The Lights'....Enslaved progressed musically. Bands are beginning to realize that atmosphere can be accoplished without drowning in synths, or shit poor production.

@Practice9Perfection Wow, never heard BAN compared to Emperor. I think I get what youre saying though. I think what you mean by "old styled" is the more typical Norwegian/Scandanavian sound. Kind of icy, dissonant, and raw. And in that, you are correct. I think what is more important than anything in black metal is true passion for the music and ideaologies, that's where I think this project lacks. Not necessarily in pure musical style, but originality. I think I get you though.

@akhossman ok. So I just checked out Memoria Vetusta as you suggested. Sounds like Emperor, who are in my opinion a very classic Black band of the 90's era... What I meant by progresive is something totally different. In my ears black metal is based on a certain musical pattern. And most decent black bands have this (maybe Im not making myself very clear in this). Just like ovHell, who as I persume meant to make that kind of music.... you know old styled

@Practice9Perfection Id be happy to provide you with a list of bands/albums that are very progressive black metal. The first you should look into is Blut Aus Nord's 2009 masterpeice "Memoria Vetusta II: Dialouge With The Stars".
