From "The Island at the Center of the World" (history of 17th century Dutch settlement around Manhattan), The word "boss" comes from a Dutch world meaning "master", it took on its modern English meaning from that origin. And among the first Dutch settlers were "Springsteens". The Dutch settlements included parts of modern New Jersey. I don't know if Bruce traces ancestry back to then, nor how he got the moniker "The Boss".

All of those complaining about Scialfa's vocals should keep one thing in mind - nothing happens on Bruce's stage that he doesn't want. If he thought she was an attention whore or singing off-key, he never would have asked her in the first place. So what you are seeing is a result of how Bruce sees his music and wants it to sound. And, for some weird reason, I think he is probably a better judge of that than anyone here.
