Yeah, the new album is friggin awesome, 'nough said. I listen to Devil and Fall Into My Hands and just think 'man, Jimmy should play these songs on the Grammy's alongside all these supposed 'musical geniuses'.

I haven't read anything other than the first 5 comments or so but I get the impression that I'm not the only one with this point of view: The new album just feels quite boring. Musically it's all a bit samey, Jimmy has lost or is at least not showing the Jeff Buckleyness he used to. I actually quite like "been down" as it's a bit more of a patient record but if this gets read then please please listen to your old albums! Yes it's good to re-invent yourself but not just for the sake of it.

It amazes me to read some of the unkind, ignorant comments here. This is a brilliant move on Jimmy's part. The way you people are talking, you'd think YOU had actually made 5 amazing records in your lifetime. And as far as I can tell, none of you have. Bringing the influence of 70s soul into the Ours repertoire is genius. If you don't get that, if you haven't listened to that kind of music, then you have a totally uninformed opinion. I think this is brilliant. I have been a fan of Jimmy's since Distorted Lullabies came out. Every record has been consistently brilliant. And this falls right in line with that. The ignorance of today's average music listener is precisely why Jimmy Gnecco remains virtually unknown to mainstream audiences. This is a bunch of Curtis Mayfield, Al Green, and beautiful gypsy darkness thrown together brilliantly, and the best you can come up with is calling it porn music. Go to a record store, buy a bunch of 70s soul records, and THEN come back and talk shit about this brilliant music. I'm the biggest Jimmy Gnecco fan I know, and this record is AMAZING.

Yes, Ours is not sounding like Distorted Lullabies, Precious and Mercy anymore, but I really love it...

I absolutely LOVE IT!!! Those of you expecting something like DL are out of your mind!! Jimmy has matured as a musician, and it shows. As a musician, I love to see bands mature and remold themselves. I really like what I'm hearing so far :)

did he layer his voice on the start of this??

Fair enough, but please remember DL was backed by Dreamworks records. The band had a long time to make that record and a fairly large budget. The same goes for "Precious", and "Mercy". From the interviews i posted in the description, this is the record Ours wanted to make, give em a read if you have the time. I don't expect them to change your mind or anything, just a little perspective. Also, the new songs sound great live. ~peace

i am amending my original post about hating this song...while i still definitely think it doesn't hold up to the brilliance of the songs on DL, it has grown on me. after hearing the rest of the album, there are a few great songs on it. overall though, i think it is their weakest effort as far as production value and cohesiveness.

this is the greatest departure Jimmy (OURS) has made and it is amazing! If you took the music, you could have Charles Bradley sing over it. SOUL! You could tell this was an extremely personal piece and it is pure groove and vibe and brilliance. Hope he plays it at the Middle East this August.

A lost vocal master is a guy named Preston Graves from the band "The Cupcakes". Amazing pipes.

Jimmy sounds more like Bono and Orbison had an American kid then he does muse. Rolling Stone said that he sounded like Jeff Buckley when Distorted came out. Now come on, Bellamy sounds more like a Mercury/Buckley. I like Jimmy though. He has his own unique way of doing things.
