The problem with most guitar players is they try to be a solo act, play a million notes really fast. Then they join a band, do the EXACT same thing, and wonder why it sounds like shit. Well, it sounds like shit because they're playing over the vocals and crowding out all the other instruments. Blues, especially, is about playing the right notes in just the right places.

I like it. But, "lots of chords"? I'm sorry, but I don't think it gets much more simple than this. Its easy 3-chord blues, (1-4-5), as far as I can tell. Think Johnny B. Goode in super slow motion.

mike... he has a massive backing band, a luxury many guitar players (including myself) do not have. Makes it easy to leave space between licks in that context!

Not just a great blues guitar player, but a great singer to. He didn't just play the blues, he lived it to some extent also. While others like BB King went on to finally get the recognition all the original blues writers,players and singers deserved but didn't get for so long because of racism. Otis seemed to always miss his opportunities, partially due to timing and possibly because of a lax aptitude due to becoming used to being screwed by whites. Both: The Best & the Best kept secret in blues
