I know, but these are just local government lines set in 1974 and then reviewed. Banff being in Aberdeenshire is just daft. If Lewis Grassic Gibbon will be spinning in his Arbuthnott, Kincardineshire grave as that is now also designated Aberdeenshire. No criticism intended, by the way, it's just that I'm a proud Banffshire loon who is determined that proper place names don't die! And it is a lovely and passionate version of a classic song. The wikipedia page of Aberdeenshire states that Banff belongs to it. The area known as Banffshire is a subsidiary or Aberdeenshire, just as Ross-Shire / Ross and Cromarty (my home area) is within the Highlands and Islands area.

Nice version, but "Aberdeenshire"?????? The clue is the phrase "the Brig o Banff". That'll be Banffshire. MacPherson was captured in Keith and hanged in Banff. Legend has it that the clock put forward to foil the pardon found its way into Dufftown clock tower. That's very unlikely to be true.
