this album, along with black sheep boy and down the river of golden dreams are the best okkervil river albums in terms of Will just letting it out. There isn't a ton of thought and purposeful cleverness that we see with the stage names and the more recent stuff that have more themes (albums as a whole) rather than individual songs. Black Sheep Boy was themed, but I feel like the songs stand alone a lot better than The Silver Gymnasium.she'll never know I could never forget herif I could write her a letter i'd try with every lineto say she still remembers her touchand i know that it's not much but you still haven't lost herwow.

the singer has an interesting way of building the words and music around each other. they both follow and lead each other. takes a minute to get used to it.

You'll grow an ear for them. Sorta like when people can't understand screamo at first. The more you listen to a type of music or artist the more and easier you can understand.
