WS Warthog

This song (esp. when the chanting begins) makes me think of public electrocution. I imagine a big standing arena enclosed by barbed wire fencing, and a sort of "stage" at the front where a naked man is suspended from an X-shaped cross, bruises and cuts decorating every inch of his skin, with a black cloth bag over his head. There are Tesla coils sparking into the night air arranged all around the stadium, for effect. Off to the side is a kind podium, behind which is a gavel-wielding "announcer", a fat fellow with a double chin dressed in the black robe and wig getup of an English judge. He gesticulates frantically as he reads the charges against the accused into a microphone, in stressed high-pitch tones. The crowd sneers and jeers enthusiastically with every outragous charge read. Then he signals for the executioner to begin. He first pulls one lever which releases a shower of ice water over the cross, and the man immediately begins to shiver. He then pulls a second lever, and the faint crackling noises of the electric generator can be heard, then with a blinding flash the Tesla coils spark in unision, and then die out, as their power source is redirected toward the man on the cross. He convulses violently, though screamming can't be heard. The crowd is now in full ecstacy, chanting and raving as the man writhes around as if under exorcism. The water on his skin is boiling into a thick cloud of steam, and within about 30 seconds the lever is pulled back down and the man goes limp, evidently dead.

Some music columnist somewhere wrote that Nik Ogre / OhGr / Skinny Puppy do more musical experimentation in one track than some bands do in entire albums. I don't know about that, but I love how much Ogre's sound palette has expanded and changed over the decades. ohGr - tragek

One of the great industrial anthems. Makes you wonder who the new goth kids will be, how the new rivet heads will come about.
