This performance was wonderful in that it was perfectly balanced and blended, its harmonies were very tight, and the choir connected with its conductor. The only issue I had was with some of the pronunciations of Latin vowels and consonants. The "i" and "e" vowels were very flat and Americanized (the "o" and "u" vowels, however, were perfect!), and the "r" consonant needed to be bounced off the tongue as if it were a soft "d" consonant. On a personal note, I would've added the use of vibrato (especially with the men) to give the song a warm color. It's one thing to get the notes accurate and the harmonies together, but if there's no stylistic expression then it becomes easy for the listener to zone out. All of that being said, though, this was still one of the best performances of this piece that I've heard (the tenors' moving tones at the end were gorgeous!).

This group has a You Tube of Lauridsen's "Shining Night" Fantastische! Polyphony, professional singers, do Eric Whitacre's and Lauridsen's works. I am calling this new music a Lux Aeternae. thank you all who made this possible for us.

Very nicely done for an amateur group! I LOVE this Composition - one of my personal favorites! I have sung that before...but now my voice is gone and I so regret that fact...and I REALLY miss singing harmony! In my own mind I sing along...oh yes, I much prefer the Kings College Version...they know how its done!

Better with all male voices. See King´s College version which is not so fast and much better

Excuse me, my english is not perfect. This performance has nothing to do with the spirit of the text and of the music of Lauridsen, and is totally apathetic. Neither the tempos are the same as in the score which is more than fault.

I love this piece. I commend them for a wonderful performance, this truly is a terrific group.I just feel that this was rushed through for most of the piece excluding the "Virgo" section. well done none the less.

"For heights and depths no words can reach, music is the soul's own speech"The best LIVE recording, I've found on youtube (so far). That they perform this work from memory is just amazing. (Stated by a former semi-pro choral singer).Of all the choral literature, religious and secular that I have ever performed or heard, or of any piece of music for that matter from the last 300+ years, this one moves, the MOST my soul ...and the tears just roll ...
