This song just came up on my iPod (from among 5,100+ great tunes). I'm maybe 90% sure that the music track is from Steve Earle's recording. Other than the vocals, it really does sound identical ... but I'm only going from memory.

+nilradem I'm no more than 19 years old, but I don't follow the "trend" of bashing pop country. I do it because it is deserving of it. My dad has a friend from Texas, that now lives on Oklahoma, whose father used to own an old music venue down in Texas. His mother dated Willie in high school, and honestly, the guy looks like Willie, himself. He has met everyone from Waylon and Willie, to Billy Joe Shaver, and has performed on the same stages as these guys for years. I've spent countless hours picking and singing with this guy, playing everything from stuff he has written, to stuff by Hank Sr. Just because a guy is young doesn't mean he is ignorant.

@david97ri It is spelled Kristofferson not Kristopherson - Anyway, I know the four legends that made up the Highwaymen, and was not saying they were all on this album. My point was that mrpeople is wrong about Willie and Waylon never collaborating - they did here as well as in the Highwaymen. This particular song was recorded later for the re-release, though.

@mrperople If you notice looking at the song listing for this album you'll see that Willie Nelson seems to write all of his own songs, unlike the rest of them, which is pretty impressive. I still like Waylon better, but both of them are amazing. I don't think you can say Willie is a sellout just because he got bigger.

@nilradem The Highwaymen was Johnny Cash, Kris Kristopherson, Waylon, and Willie. I don't think Jessie or Tompall Glaser were on that album, but both of these albums are Epic!

Look at his page - mrpeople is only 20. Another young 'un who buys into the trend of bashing pop country (not that it doesn't need bashing), but doesn't know the music well enough to know good music , or that Waylon and Willie were collaborating all the time at this point, along with Kris and Johnny. I just responded to another 20 year old who insisted that this was the original version of "Nowhere Road" on Earle's version. I feel old... but it made me give this another listen!

@mrperople And I suppose you think that they were never in a band together? Ever heard of the Highwaymen?
