This choir has overcomplicated this simple hymn. They need to also learn how to sing in 3 or 5 part harmony.

This arrangement is pretty in places but lacks inspiration. Its best moments seem beholden to superior treatments by other composers, especially Mendelssohn. Rutter furnished two different introductions for a short piece, first a big and unnecessary orchestral fanfare with timpani, then an organ statement of the first line of the hymn. Neither seems quite the right choice. The choral verses are lovely, but alas the descant and concluding "amen" are utterly predictable. I'm not sure exactly why Rutter felt he needed to write this.
