LYRICS: (from http://www.ap0s7le.com/list/song/6621/Hilary_Weeks/Not_Too_Far_from_Here/)

Somebody's down to their last dime

Somebody's running out of time

Not too far from here

Somebody's got nowhere else to go

Somebody needs a little hope

Not too far from here

And I may not know their name

But I'm praying just the same

That You'll use me Lord to wipe away a tear

Cause somebody's crying

Not too far from here

Somebody's troubled and confused

Somebody's got nothing left to lose

Not too far from here

Somebody's forgotten how to trust

Somebody's dying for love

Not too far from here

It may be a stranger's face

But I'm praying for Your grace

To move in me and take away the fear

Cause somebody's hurting

Not too far from here

Help me Lord not to turn away from pain

Help me not to rest while those around me weep

Give me Your strength and compassion

When somebody finds the road of life too steep

Somebody's troubled and confused

Somebody's got nothing left to lose

Not too far from here

Somebody's forgotten how to trust

And somebody's dying for love

Not too far from here

Now I'm letting down my guard

And I'm opening my heart

Help me speak Your love to every needful ear

Someone is waiting not too far from here

Someone is waiting not too far from here

Actually, the song itself was sung by Hilary Weeks AFTER Michael Crawford originally did it in 1998. It is neither a catholic or an LDS song- so you're both kinda right. (besides, who cares WHAT religion it originated from when the message is what really matters.)

My aunt, her sister and her dad preformed this song for my uncle's funeral. It was a good song choice because my uncle loved to help people. RIP David.

So neat to read all these positive comments. We will be privileged to have Hilary come down with the TOFW team to Australia & New Zealand at the end of July. We are so blessed to have them bring this wonderful event that we just hear everyone rave about, all the way down to our shores. Others who will be coming include Sheri Dew, Brad Wilcox, Virginia Pearce, Laurel Christensen. We are so excited, and I'm even more excited now that I've read some of your comments. She has a sense of humor huh?

@Super ... I think we can apply them by just doing as the lyrics suggest - PRAY! Pray for guidance, strength, direction, awareness, compassion; keep our eyes ever seeing, ears ever hearing and hearts ever open to the needs of those around us and when an opportunity presents itself, hopefully it will be recognized and we'll go do something about it - no questions asked. Jmho.

This song apparently was written by Ty Lacy & Steve Siler in the early 1990s and as far as I know, they are not members of the LDS church. I think it may have been originally recorded by Kim Boyce in 1994 and was also sung by Mikaila Enriquez as an 8 year old around the time of the Oklahoma bombing, but don't quote me on that. Love the song and especially Hilary Weeks rendition.

@cpsparkles12440 oh...but this isn't a catholic song. it's by an LDS artist and is found on a CD called EFY (Especially for Youth)...i don't know which year though :) every year songs are released in connection with the yearly Youth Theme :) yes i agree, it is an amazing song. we once sang this with the young women in our ward and midway everyone was crying :)
