The fact of the matter is Motown was really the"only game in town", meaning they were at least paying their artists unlike most of the other labels of the time. Motown had a plethora of talent and took full advantage of it. Witness how Gladys Knight and the Pips, the Isley Bros, and of course the Spinners had greater success after leaving the company. You'll never see a concentration of artists of that calibre on one label ever again

@mrjoshjones1 The answer lies in the Incredible roster Motown had and ahead of the Spinners were the 4 Tops, The Temptations and To an extent the Isley Brothers. But yes something must have gone wrong for them as they were brilliant.

Great sounds - great video!! funny though, that at the time of the real popularity of 'northern soul' in the 70s, as in the vid people were wearing such embarrassing clobber, compared to the time the music was mostly made, in the 60s when the suits were sharp!
