It's interesting listening to Kurt's talking recordings and seeing him interviewed from this period in "Montage of Heck." He seems quite functional, thoughtful, and in control at that time, even for someone who did not seem to know what his future held. In retrospect, it's hard for me to put my finger on exactly what mental health issues Kurt was dealing with. He does not seem like an anxious person to me. (I am a very, very anxious person.) I see the hyperactivity in those early home movies, but I am not seeing a fearful, worried kid. And not to belittle Kurt in any way, but his adolescent "rebellion" (if you want to call it that) seems quite pedestrian and normal (parental divorce or not), at least compared to some of the things I saw when growing up (So many people I knew in elementary, middle and high school came from dysfunctional single parent homes, dominated by violence and addiction. Lots of families renting apartments.)
