IMO the song is about Courtney Love, and kind of how she personified the parasitic narcissism of the entertainment industry. Lyrics are full of subliminal references.

Wow I was just thinking this song could've been written about Manson and I look down to the comments and apparently it is. I think Reznor may have had a fascination with him, demonstrated by his living in the Cielo Drive house and taking of the door, but after an encounter with Sharon Tate's sister the reality of what Manson did hit him and he purportedly cried and said "Fuck Charlie Manson"!
