Definitely not playback. I suspect that some of the synth parts are sequenced, hence the drummer playing to a click in the cans - pretty brave in itself as sequencers weren't the most reliable things back then!

I was lucky enough to see Nik live in 1985 here in Toronto. What a concert! Nik Kershaw, Paul Young, OMD and Power Station! I remember it like it was yesterday even though it was an unbelievable 29 years ago... Wow lol

Being born in 1975, I remember this song coming out in 1984 and it was amazing then. I feel a little sorry for those born later as, whilst I don't think anyone born in my generation realised just how amazing the music was, as I look back I realise what an amazing era for music it was!At least you youngsters have You Tube to watch it on as well as all the other great songs - I didn't own this song until I bought his GH album 15 years later!
