Some old hotel room in Memphis

I see the city through the rain

I'm just chasing me in my time

And remembering some pain

You see there once was a boy

And on the street he'd surely die

So the nightbird took him in

And she taught him how to fly

See the nightbird softly fly

Why does she fly alone

Is the moonlight just a flame

For her memory now she's gone

Two-bit bars and honkytonks

Any pleasure can be found

You can get just what you want

If you lay your money down

And lonely sailors do their drinking

My my my how the brave men do die

And the nightbird sells her pleasures

Bringing tears to my eyes

See the nightbird softly fly

Why does she fly alone

Is the moonlight just a flame

For her memory now she's gone

So I guess I'll go out walking

Lord let the rain keep falling down

I guess I'll go and chase some memories

In the dark side of town

See the nightbird softly fly

Why does she fly alone

Is the moonlight just a flame

For her memory now she's gone

For her memory now she's gone

For her memory now she's gone

This is one awesome song I've not heard before. Eva, as usual fills it with all her heart and soul. Thanks for posting it and especially with the words. One day in the hereafter, I long to meet her. She reaches a place in my heart like no other singer. theodas

Eva your music is the Nightbird that pulled me from the street. The moon is a flame for your memory now your gone. I love you! ps. That dislike must have been a mistake. How could anyone?

This woman can pull the heart right out of you with her music, and expose your innermost feelings to the world. Wouldn't trade her for the world.

What a fantastic song this is, possibly one of my favourites by Eva, theres another version on you tube, Eva singing nightbird live, it's on ironizxcv, channel. Her voice is tremendous.

I recently read an interview with Doug McCloud, the writer of this song. He said the song is about a prostitute he knew. When he heard Eva's performance of the song he was so deeply moved that he will no longer perform the song, but refer people to Eva's version.

Every song Eva sung, she didn't just borrow -she owned them. Classics all just melt into heavenly Eva'ness.

it's amazing she actually thought she couldn't sing! As if that were possible. She is fab and I just can't tire of hearing her.

If I had only one artist I could listen to for my entire life, I would select the wonderful lady.
