This is not an April Fool’s joke. Nick Jonas released a SECOND video for his song “Chains” and it’s nothing like the original.

As some of you may know, Nick originally released a video for Chains last summer, but we’re guessing that he decided to reintroduce the song once again due to the newfound hype around it thanks in large part to his recent performances at the Kid’s Choice and iHeart Radio Music Awards. I guess he figured why not make a new video to go along with the resurgence of popularity? Kudos to Nick’s marketing team for that one.

Nick went in a completely different direction with this new video in contrast with the old so let’s mentally draw a venn diagram and do some comparing shall we?

So the original version is much darker in tone and stays truer to the meaning of the song which is all about how his relationship has made him a prisoner of love and such. So he’s shown in various captive situations where his control is limited such as being underwater, being tied to a chair, he free falls through the sky, and then there’s this dramatic scene where these rebels go up against some police officers in full on shield, helmet, protective gear and there’s this whole police brutality/ fight the system connotation as Nick dramatically runs through smoke and then tries to break through the police barrier to get to his love. Oh and then when he finally gets to her of course she disappears. The whole thing is very dramatic and theatrical.

But the same cannot be said for the new video angle. The 2015 version is called The Wynwood Walls Edition because the whole video takes place there with a very carniVAL, rave, Mardi Gras vibe. In case you don’t know, the Wynwood Walls are this awesome attraction in Miami where street artists from all around the world have come to create these beautiful murals and elaborate graffatii on a bunch of warehouse walls. It’s really cool.

So the video begins with Nick jogging doing his morning routine, then it cuts to him at the Wynwood Walls amidst this epic nightlife party scene where people are riding in these crazy cool beatle golf carts dressed in body paint, neon colors, lights, and anything else you would find in Lady Gaga’s closet. Then we see this girl slab a paint brush on Nick’s body and theres someone in this cool mirror mosaic costume. Lots of stuff going on. It’s basically a huge party that’s an artsy version of spring break.

But as far as the center column of our venn diagram goes, only things we can really put in the similarities category is the fact that Nick is in both of the videos, he’s singing the same song, and he wears a cut off muscle shirt to show off his biceps. Cus duh.
