Also, a song like this is partly so wonderful because of the sincerity of the feelings behind it. Today, with such a strong media glare, everything has to be ironic or self-aware so that people can distance themselves slightly from everything and not risk looking foolish. With someone like Nick Cave I get the impression he isn't scared to say with his art, "This is what I feel. If you don't like it, I don't care. If you do like it then thank you for listening." That's why he's awesome! :)

I agree. I was just responding to the people who seemed to be suggesting "No great music is made AT ALL any more," when it clearly is. Yes, it's a shame that very little great art makes it into the mainstream and it seems to get harder to find, but there is always SOMETHING good out there.

I think they mean...why aren't there more great musical proposals like this one nowadays!!! This great kind of music is not common in today's musical landscape. Most of the music today is shallow and too simple. The great lyrical complexity has been abandoned for easy beats and dancing clubs tunes.

Why are people complaining about "Where did all the good music go?" IT'S RIGHT HERE!! YOU'RE LISTENING TO IT NOW!!! There is and always has been great music. Just because it doesn't always break into 'the mainstream' doesn't mean there isn't great art out there. You just have to look for it sometimes. That''s what makes it even sweeter when you find it :)

@the guys below me, i love nick cave and everything but i think you're overstating it, this song and the artists you mentioned are from totally different parts of the music spectrum even relatively speaking. music like this still very much exists and gets recognition, you're just looking in the wrong places.

The reason that music is so shitty now is because of the fact that the shitty artists like pitbull, flo rida, david guetta etc. are all praised by the media. Because of this people start to think they are actually good. Ps. I'm 15 years old so maybe I'm wrong but this is the most logical explaination for me.
