Oh oh ohI just finished writing "Jubilee Street"I lay down on my bed and fell into a deep sleepWhen I awoke, I believed I'd taken a bride called Mary StanfordAnd I flew into a frenzy searching high and lowBecause in my dream, the girl was very youngOh I said, hey little girl where do you hide? You draw the lightning from the skyOhh all of this and her dark hairAnd all of this and her dark hair, LordOh see that girl coming on downComing on down, coming on downSee that girl coming on downComing on down, coming on downLast night your shadows scampered up the wallIt flies and leaped like a black spider between your legsAnd cried, my children my childrenThey are lost to usAll of this and her dark hair, oh noAll of this and her dark hair, oh LordSee that girl coming on downComing on down, coming on downSee that girl coming on downComing on down, coming on downSee that girl coming on downComing on down, coming on downSee that girl coming on downComing on down, coming on down

The man is, 'ripening' with age as he approaches that illusive and not easy to achieve 'crooner' status. The music is more infinite, still laced with sentiment while retaining its furnace of desire while engaging less with the immaturity of protest. He is one of the few talents, who not only has the creative need, but astute choreographed sense of reinvention, and he does it with style. My prediction is he will get close to where HE wants to be (though he may not know it), around 70. Think Davis, Hooker, Burnside - who make cool graceful, effortless. As his own self infatuation gives way to the direct and pure power of communication, so to will his sound. Not yet a philosopher and perhaps will never be, yet close he will get, in another kind of sea. I honour the man, his cohorts and muses for their boundless hours of listening joy he/they have give me.

Nick has seemed to mellow with age yet become way more effectively sinister. And I grew up listening to Birthday Party. Yep.
