This is the original recording of "Alice" by New World produced by Mickie Most. Several years later he re-recorded it with Smokie achieving international success. Although it inexplicably didn't chart for New World in the UK it reached #20 in Australia in 1973.

I remember when the New World version came out. I thought instant number one. The reason it didn't was because New World were caught up in the payola scandal (paying Radio 1 DJ's to play songs). Consequently the BBC went the other way and didn't play the song and it was lost until Smokie brought it out.9 years ago
