Another excellent piece of craftsmanship in Neil Young's songwriting genius, "Can't Believe Your Lyin'" (like many of the songs on This Note's for You) find Young writing in character, like Randy Newman. A bittersweet love song, it expresses the joy and disappointment of love at the same time, illustrating Young's ability to juggle insights brilliantly. A smooth, dark melody is the haunting core of the song.
