I came for the Innes, but the girl in this video is the cutest thing I've ever seen. Who is she?

I think the monk represents religion controlling people's freedom of speech, thought etc... I particularly like the stop exploiting women sign, which comes straight after the titillating underwear shots! The whole wideo is about double standards.

When was the video made? Late 70s?? There were dark times then....I saw his burning the signs as a comment on the reactionary forces about to take charge in Britain at the time. Just my interpretation,though...

Neil knows his art history! (By the way, I just saw his solo show here in NYC last night. Delightful!)

@UllageGroup Found it - oh my god it's EXACT! And here I thought this image came out of Neil's fevered mind... nope, it was somebody else's fevered mind that just inspired Neil's decades later. Thank you for knowing this and telling us!

@UllageGroup Oh is it?? I did not know that. Thanks for that... I'll have to find the painting now!

Come now! Let's give credit where it's due... That mermaid is from a Magritte painting. And nicely done, too.

@NeilinnesOrg He's burning ALL the protest signs, including ban the bomb and save the whale signs. Maybe he just wanted a nice fire?

@graytart Yeah but why is he burning the signs? He's against women's lib? He's playing a jerk? He's symbolically burning something else? Who the hell knows!

It's hard to hazard a guess, but there was a lot of women's lib activity in England in the early 70s, including the publication of The Female Eunuch by Vivian's friend Germaine Greer. Maybe he's channeling his head-banging monk? And the reverse mermaid is pure dada.
