Before my Sister was born I had an imaginary playing girl I called Angie. I do not recall where I picked up the name but I imagined we went on wild adventures together. Nice song. It describes very well how a lonely child feels and how he or she invents an imaginary playmate.

While I love Neil Diamonds music, this song always held a special place in my heart. The reason I say that is because when I was young around 3 years old, I moved into a house in which the next door neighbor was a young girl about 2 years older. We quickly became best friends and I would go next door daily and call her name. If she was home she always came out to play. We were very close until our early teens. I grew feelings for her and wanted to become more than friends. She made a move to kiss me but at the last second I chickened out. I guess I was afraid she would be disappointed and it would ruin my chances of being with her. Shortly after, she began distancing herself, got into drugs, got pregnant and she pushed away and went down a path I could not follow. She ultimately moved away with a guy and I haven't heard from her in years. I tried calling but she grew so distant I knew there was no way back. I always wonder, if i would have kissed her, would i have been able to keep her on the right path. I feel guilty about that, and keep thinking maybe i could have saved her from making a lot of bad life choices. She was and always will be my first love and my first big loss. I will always hold a special place in my heart for her. I know my story isn't what this songs about but there are similarities in the lyrics and my story. I therefore will always think of this song in a good way and keep my memories alive of that special young girl that always came and played.
