I am a carpenter...that works with wood, i am also a father...that teaches my children, it is sad when my kids don't value the gifts i leave with them, for if they did they would understand the beautiful things that God could make out of them...

I always wonder what they talked about and where they were going at the end. So beautiful and sweet.

MorningsideThe old man diedAnd no one criedThey simply turned awayAnd when he diedHe left a table made of nails and prideAnd with his hands,He carved these words inside'For my children'Morning lightMorning brightI spent the nightWith dreams that make you weepMorning timeWash away the sadnessFrom these eyes of mineFor I recall the words an old man signed'For my children'[Spoken:]And the legs were shaped with his handsAnd the top made of oaken woodAnd the childrenThat sat around this great tableTouched it with their laughterAh, and that was goodMorningsideAn old man diedAnd no one criedHe surely died aloneAnd truth is sadFor not a child would claim the gift he hadThe words he carved became his epitaph'For my children'

This song rips my heart out and stomps on it. It so reminds me of my daddy who I lost at a young age. He was a carpenter and wood carver and did beautiful work. At least I appreciate the gift he had and treasure his work.

Wooh. This is Big Stuff for me. My first boyfriend died the day after I ended things with him. John played this to me whilst telling me my ex had died.

I love this song, it tells a story, a real story, it makes you think of those who are no longer here, and makes you reflect in how you could have made their lives better, we only truly reflect on things when it's too late, Neil Diamond is a gift to music.

This is one of my favorite Neil Diamond songs (but not everyone elses' since he doesn't perform it often}. I tell my kids and grandkids he wrote it just for me. It tears my soul that so few appreciate the gifts of time and craftmanship anymore. Neil Diamond captures my lament in this ballad. He says, "it is a fantasy ..." (when he recorded the song many years ago), but it turned out to be a definition of society in the latter half of the 20th century, and things don't seem to be improving.
