I've been switching between Dessey and Damrue.. listening to just the vocals.. Dessey has more vibrato... however when watching.. (the Demrau seems to have better sets etc...) but watching Damraue.. yeah she is the evil queen... I can see the "mother" in Dessey's version...

This is still my favorite rendition of this aria. The costume and set design are not great, but Dessay sings so effortlessly that it's even scary.

I have been loving extremely angry night queen aria which is sung by Gruberova or Damrau. I don't have to say that they are really marvelous. Having listened to night queen aria of Natalie Dessay , I was very surprised that her talent for singing is extraordinarily excellent and so stable. She possesses a strange but nice fresh enchantment which Gruberova and Damrau don't have. In that scene, surely, queen of Natalie was threatening her daughter . But on the contrary, I can't miss that she also showed a kind of affection to her daughter Pamina. Although Natalie is a little bit undependable slender queen comparing with damrau, she is fulfilled with great charms. I'm going to be her enthusiastic fan. From Tokyo
