Later to become, among other things "The fifth Beatle". (one of 'em anyway.) Get Back, Billy.

At first I thought this was Franky Lyman. Billy Preston was a natural. This piece of footage is priceless.

And even then Billy Preston looked like a man (tie and suit), no special effects, true talent.

@msccryder1968 On one of the PBS channels they did, a little less than a year ago. My son and I watched it but it didn't tell much more than I already knew except that this gentleman was so gracious to be around and so smart, he was starting HIS own recording label (unheard of then). Of course, it was widely known that he would not sing at the Copa unless it was to an intergrated audience. He was a man with confidence, convictions. OMG was he clean too! :D

@msccryder1968 I was in Pediatric Hemetology/Oncology as an Admin Secretary but I started out in Benefits..between the two I was in the African-American Cultural Center in the Lecture Halls..saw a lot of you students! Prof. R was cool, just irratic, I had to split. :D But it was a beautiful place...that was about in 1991-1992.. Small world, but you were good to be a student there! Hey : ) Something about working there though, kind of drives you crazy at least me!

@msccryder1968 I worked with David Cooke's wife and they say they still only have theories of why that wonderful man was killed. Shame. And let's not forget the genius of Curtis Mayfield.. We moved to South Shore in the early 70's. It was so beautiful, we walked the streets at dark and had a thousand places to eat, Now you may see dudes standing on a corner smoking weed, something rather unheard of back in the day, not to mention the residual crack addicts and drug dealers. I could cry : ( Ugh

@msccryder1968 You best believe a whole lot of brilliance came out of 'our' hometown. I grew up in Kenwood and graduated from DuSable. Sam Cooke's brother LC used to date my big sister's best friend next door. All those guys were from what I hate that they named it "The Low End" (that's jive). Morgan Park produced Mae Jemison and that neighborhood was very nice and stable back in the day. Unfortunately, all the neighborhoods have experienced changes we didn't want to see : (

@msccryder1968 Mr. Cole was a Chicago born and reared person such as myself...he died when I was a child but my family always kept up with him and an older relative graduated with him from the HS we all did. His reputation was great as a person, as a musician. To see Billy and him together makes me sentimental. Billy's childhood and sexuality was torn from him and his mother, whom he loved didin't even believe him. So they didn't believe the girls or boys. See what rape can do? : (
