I own the 4 bladed Kou Xiang, I bought it from Nadishana years ago. Playing one is not like a normal harp, it will cut your lip if you give it a chance :P

i like this vid, reminds me of a few Shpongle songs. i think Shpongle used a vocoder but there are some definite timbral similarities. thumbs up

Mouth harps just echo in the mouth. If they hit the teeth, it can hurt and is a thunk, not a note, lol. (from experience with a metal 1 leaf harp) You use the cavern of your mouth and tongue to make the sounds.

I find most jaw harps annoying to listen to because it is very repetitive and players don't seem to know how to get more than a scale of notes out of the harp, but you on this 7 bladed one impressed from the very beginning. Bravo!

Nadishana, the supporting act of #deadcandance , had lots of interesting and experimental instruments. For example they were using three Hangs and a Kou Xiang. The Hang was developed about 12 years ago and looks like an UFO. Kou Xiang is Chinese jaw jap. They used a modified version with seven blades that sounds almost like a *synthesiser* combined with a ring modulator and resonating filter -- except that they weren't using any effects except of some reverb.
