"Mystical One" was released in the winter of 1982 on George Harrison's 9th studio album, Gone Troppo. This tune, though not from a strong album, remains one of my all-time favorite George Harrison songs.....it's just such an absolute beauty, the kind of song that only George Harrison could ever produce....so spiritual and gentle, it's one of those songs that always makes me miss George's unique talent.....and miss having him here with us today.

I remember being more disappointed with Gone Troppo than any other George Harrison album I'd ever purchased when I first picked it up in '82. It seemed that the bad experience George had with his previous album (Warner Bros. had originally rejected it and forced him to drop and replace 4 tracks (some of the strongest!) and had even forced him to replace the cover art), George was just going through (barely) the motions. Gone Troppo is to me, by far the weakest album George ever released....however, it does have four incredible songs; this one, "That's The Way It Goes", "Unknown Delight" and "Dream Away".....four that are always in my heavy George rotation!

This is my 7th video for a George Harrison song and it was this song that had actually kicked off my most recent Beatle/Solo Beatle video production tangent...however, while searching for some images for it I came across a cool dragonfly image which sidetracked me into Paul's "Little Lamb Dragonfly", then a video clip I was going to use in it I realized was much better suited for another long stalled George project ("Tired Of Midnight Blue"), and finally playing with some cool sunrise clips took me into "Here Comes The Sun" territory (yeah, that'll be my 3rd The Beatles effort.....soon)....anyway, I finally wound back around to where I'd started; wanting to bring some of dharmic religions imagery from George's albums (especially recall that Krishna and Arjuna painting from Living In The Material World) that I used to be so mystified with as a teenager into a video for one of his songs. There were of course numerous other George songs where the imagery would have also fit nicely, but I really wanted to do this song. There are numerous other George Harrison songs I'd love to try something with (c'mon EMI....All Things Must Pass! Please let us in to share some visions for this masterpiece!?), but working with this one I think I have some nice effects (mostly lifted directly from this video! LOL!) that might make for an interesting "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)" so think I'll try that one for my next George!

Until then.....hope you enjoy this one!

[Lyrics]

They say I'm not what I used to be

All the same

I'm happier than a willow tree

Shine or rain sitting here by a stream

(Mmm) There's nothing I'd rather feel

In this world

You and your sweet serenity

Rocking me

Melting my heart away

I know something so dear to me

Beyond words

Beautiful feeling in my soul

Sounds I've heard

Like humming birds in a dream

(Mmm) That mystical one I knew

Is returned

Lulling me with those raincloud eyes

Taking me

Melting my heart away

I am yes I am

I know what I feel

You came in my life

Made me more real

I know whatever we may have been

In past times

Has sorted the truth out from the rest

Win or lose

I always knew you'd be there

(Mmm) You answer my deepest prayer

In a song

Shimmering slowhand flowing clear

Moving me

Melting my heart away

I am yes I am

I know what I feel

You came in my life

Made me more real

(Mmm) That mystical one I knew

Is returned

Lulling me with those raincloud eyes

Taking me

Melting my heart away

Gone Troppo production wise is a GEM. As far I recall George put this album together to end a contract with a Warner Bros, it was never promoted. Most of my friends who heard the the album went out and bought it. I really like it, it is so uplifting and the rich sublime slide guitars are amazing. Also George I think at that stage he had lost interest in being "pop idol" in the 80's, I think his song "Blood From A Clone" - was his reply to Warner Bros.

Thanks, James! You know, I hadn't given much thought to "Ding Dong, Ding Dong" since I'd already done one (and have another one almost finished "Far East Man" and one just started "So Sad") from the Dark Horse album, but now that you got me thinking....yeah, this might make for a kinda cool, maybe unusual vid?! Thanks so much!

Thanks so much for watching the video and for the kind words! It's great to hear from other fans of George....I miss his presence in our world! We need him around now more than ever to bring some of his special joy into our hearts. I'm working on a few other George videos, one of my great frustrations is that everything from All Things Must Pass is not allowed to play. I'll hopefully have some others out soon though.....standby! ;-) Thanks again!

Good choice, yes Gone Troppo left the same impression on me.This was a good track, there were a few.A fine piece here by you as to be expected.Speaking of George,am always disappointed that DING DONG never appears on any collection,It was once a single released for NewYears Eve a long time ago,but of course it was more than that!

It is beyond words, hmmm, that Mystical in and of itself? Very good/excellent job with this song. It is simply hard to stop watching. Vivid colours. Our George Harrison was more of a Hindooist than a Buddhist. Will there be any other "colorful music videos" with George's songs soon? for example, 'sat singing' would be a good one. l8tr!
