Dumbledore: Do not pity the dead. Pity the Living, and above all, those who live without love. Now putting it so it works with this comment. Fred is in a better place meanwhile George, his twin brother who has been by his side since the day they were born, has to live with the fact that Fred died instead of him and he lives with that guilt though it wasn't his fault. So I would say poor George and RIP Fred.

Or... because he was able to change his ways and become a better person... He was a bully in his teen years, but Lily made it obvious that she didn't like how arrogant and mean he was. Do you really think she would have married him if James was still a bully. By his 7th year he was only hexing Snape, but that was because Snape kept trying to fight him. That could be the reason people like him... In the end he died trying to save his family, nothing douchey about that.
