In the early 1980s not everyone had cable TV. In Los Angeles a sort of new wave American Bandstand was the alternative to cable's MTV. It was called MV3.

This syndicated music video show featured (1) the latest music videos as a backdrop to (2) local dancers and (3) lip synched performances by artists such as X, The Plimsouls, Lords Of The New Church, Oingo Boingo, Berlin, The Bangles, Missing Persons, English Beat, Thomas Dolby, Psychedelic Furs, Adam Ant etc.; artists that were currently being played on KROQ (Los Angeles).

Three hosts included then KROQ DJ, Richard Blade, "comedian?" David Maples, and "actress?" Karen Scott.

Trivia: Blade and some of the regular dancers also appeared in an episode of "Square Pegs". Bret Easton Ellis mentions MV3 in his book "Less Than Zero".

Susanna looks so cute in her Beatle mop top hair style. And this song is great!

Hoffs playing the Rickenbacker is making me dizzy as she's spinning around on stage.

Ah yes, the early 80's-When every hot blonde chick chopped off their long manes so they could "look" like Lady/Princess Diana (May she rest in peace, poor lady)And Debbi Peterson was no exception...

I remember seeing this back in the 80's when MV3 was on in syndication. I hoped that they would come play my hometown of Dallas, Texas, and sure enough, they did in 1984. They were on the Rock and Roll Alternative after the show too. (That's where I first heard them too. IIRC it was "Mary Street" George played.

X, The Bang(le)s, Plimsouls, 20/20, Rain Parade, Blasters, Los Lobos, The Go-Gos, The Plugz, John Hiatt, T-Bone Burnett, Naughty Sweeties, Top Jimmy & The Rhythm Pigs, The Gun Club etc. etc. Madame Wong's (Chinatown and Santa Monica), The Central, Roxy and Whiskey, The Starwood(!), etc. etc. Two shows a night as a rule. It is hard to argue that there was ever a better indie music scene than that of the late 70s and early 80s in LA. What a time.

I was part of all that scene too. Same bands, L.A. locations and my own bands too. Time to dust off the Beatle boots and striped pants.

If it weren't for that Rick, I wouldn't know that was Susanna Hoffs. I'm still not completely sure. LOL They look more like the Go Gos here. The Beatles-style head-shaking is a bit disturbing. I didn't like it when the Beatles did it, either.
