We could say athletes live and die during the Games (when they lose they are out), and the song is about survival. Am I the only one who gets the message? They choose to survive (they want to continue in the competition) They will reveal their strength to the whole human race (some people are watching). It is just a song for the Olympic Games. I guess we need to compete to understand the thrill of being in a competition.9 years ago

Considering this song will probably be played many, many times to millions upon millions of people, I would hope that they put a lot of time and effort into it. I honestly think there are some really good Muse songs which would be serve the role of the official song of the Olympics much better. Personally, I think that the only song the Olympics really needs is "Olympic Fanfare and Theme" by the great John Williams.11 years ago

Yes, I do know what it means. Over stretches of 20 or so seconds, he sings the same note, and this happens on multiple occasions. During most of the first six lines, for example, Bellamy sings an F#, which makes this section of the song sound very boring. I'm not applying the term "monotone" to the whole song, and I'm definitely not tone-deaf.11 years ago

My first thought: Were these lyrics written by a ten year old? Seriously, the Olympic Committee couldn't find a song that was more suitable for the Olympics than this? This whole song is a disaster; the chanting, the monotone singing, the wailing... pretty much everything. I first heard about this on a sports radio show. The host was a huge Muse fan but thought this song was terrible, and after listening to the whole thing, it really is. It just sounds awful and it's unpleasant to listen to.11 years ago
