Frank Portman wrote King Dork, My favorite book ever, glad to know he's got a decent band outside of Ray Bradbury's Love Camel and We Have Eaten All The Cake

NFG are really more hardcore influenced, but that's splitting hairs.

I like Sum 41 but I wouldn't consider them 'true punk'.... None of the bands now a days are true punk.... You're forgetting Greenday, Blink, Patent Pending, BFS, Offspring.... It may sound weird but I like to listen to this 'false punk' More...

Avril, NFG, Simple Plan, Sum 41 and Good Charlotte...not one of those bands should ever be labelled punk...punk influenced rock bands at best...

Warning was released in 2000 and Simple Plan and avril lavigne's debut albums didn't come out until 2002.Take off Your Pants and Jacket, the album which first date is featured on was released in 2001. None of those videos were even out yet.

Warning made just enough to keep them in the business and was controversial for the radical change in sound. It won awards, but they also lost a lot of fans to it. Still, it reached nowhere near the sales that AI did. Green Day really was struggling for success then. Simple Plan and Blink type pop punk was a lot more popular, especially when it came to music videos. For every single time they played the video to "Minority ", they would've played "Skater Boi" or "First Date" six to eight times.

I used to hear tracks from the album warning on the radio all the time when it first came out so I don't believe that is true....

That's why I said before American Idiot came out. AI came out in 2004, but before that, no one even cared about Green Day. It was all about Avril, Blink, Simple Plan, etc. The only other time people knew about them after Dookie was when they had that hit Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) which was popular back in 1997. I know GD is currently everyone's "go to" hate band, but they were so unpopular before American Idiot that they even considered breaking up during that time.
