to me their biggest difference is the clean or melodic lines(and obviously vocals). paul's lines come from the classical(or neoclassical?) school in that they follow voice leading and focus more on harmonic rather than rythymic interest while kotzen comes more from the jazz school, where more attention is payed to rhythmic interest(consciously anyway). in terms of riffage they are similar. first time i listened to Mr.big i was convinced kotzen wrote alive and kicking. i when i found the truth

they both use blues base a LOT Richie varies a lot but remember i didn't say they were the same, similar on the other hand is questionable but still the relations exist

A. That's one project from 20 years or so of music making from both players. B. Those aren't even similar anyway. C. You are either clearly ignorant of their work, not a musician, or are simply arguing for argument's sake with no real point. There's nothing ironic about - they're both shredders but the similarities stop there (with the exception of small, technical details).

Gilbert and Kotzen make similar solo music? On what planet? Or did you mean their actual guitar solos? Which would only yield the same reply from me. Although, if you're not an active listener I could see how their guitar solos sound similarly styled, but they're really quite different players.

HAHAHA Ironicly they both make very alike solo stuff

Gilbert isn't faster than Kotzen. It may appear that way because Kotzen isn't as preoccupied with speed as much as Gilbert is, but in Kotzen's early shredder days he was just as fast - and still could be if he wanted to. Either way, they're both monsters. Personally, I have little desire to listen to Gilbert though.
