I remember when I was about 16 I traded my Guess Who t shirt for my friends Mott the Hoople t shirt ,about a week later he wanted to trade back,i said forget it .he said he would also give me his old Pink Floyd shirt as well.BUT I kept it .I still have it , its really faded but I love it.

Great album, beautiful song. I really enjoy how Alejandro Escovedo does it, as well. He's always been a big Mott the Hoople fan.

I say both this, and the next one were forgotten masterpieces.

Intensely sad song. They could project despair like no other band.

First time hearing this. Beautiful. How ironic. met a girl I mean a lady. We've got somethings in common. Really like her. I just wish I would of know her back way back then. Lyrics still hold. Thanks

Every once in awhile I too must check-in with Mott The Hopple and remember my youth. This song is very deep for me, or as we would say back then " HEAVY".... This was the good music, it was Black Sabbath that helped me crash and hit the wall in flames....

They climbed to the top of the mountain with this album and then being Mott the Hoople promptly fell straight off again ! This track was Ian Hunter at his peak and the lyrics are quite beautiful, still standing up today nearly 40 years later. The whole album wasn't quite a masterpiece but it was the best thing they ever did and elevated them to temporary greatness. They're still my favourite band.

@lyonslaforet Think about this scenario: A young man or woman is driving in their car 'with the radio on' (Jonathan Richman homage) and on comes a song that stands apart, sounds different from Foreigner, Styx, Cory Hart, i.e. sounds interesting. The way I work, I like to find these new things and then follow up on them. Of course, there is always that 98% probability that this young man or woman says to themself "That's not Styx, Foreigner or Cory Hart" flip. Some people don't care.

@mrwibbles1 Yes although I feel Mott The Hoople is often unfairly relegated in the category of second-class bands in the history of rock!
