Mick Mars does not get enough credit for his guitar work and the foundation of this group. An established veteran guitar player was pretty much a necessity for Motley in 1981 based on the musical inexperience of Sixx on bass. They chose Mars soley based on nightmarish appearance when he walked into the room at the very first audition. Yet unknown to Sixx and Lee they were luckily enough to find out quickly there was a wealth of musical talent of Mars on rhythm guitar, lead, writing, tone, composition, and originality. Which is much more important than him looking like a member of the Addams family. Then they picked Sixx's younger brother Sebastian for lead guitar who was more good looking than Mars and was a stud lead player and it became a total nightmare from the start.
