"Fear Not Of Man" is just under 10 years old but the lyrics apply to us so much more now then it did when Mos first produced it back in '99. We are waking up to an increasingly surveillance society around us...there is more control over us.....plans are being made by the people upstairs that are forcing you to think in a certain way and agree with their ideas and motives..... but the lyrics right here remind you that that although they plan, God also plans.

"And put thy trust in Allah, and Allah is sufficient as a disposer of affairs." (33:03)

وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِاللَّهِ وَكِيلًا

"And incline not to the disbelievers and the hypocrites. Disregard their noxious talk, and put thy trust in Allah. Allah is sufficient as a disposer of affairs." (33:48)

Hip hop is struggling to provide for his/her children, but is doing it. Hip hop is growing older and gaining perspective. Hip hop is still trying to teach the youth to inherit a destiny and leave behind a legacy. Hip hop is trying to build equity. Hip hop gives the Glory to GOD! I AM STILL HIP HOP!

Hip hop isn't doing very well these days...and neither are we. People need to recognize their value, stand up for their rights and put an end to this culture of destruction and exploitation. We can do better

Yasiin Bey, made a great point about Hip Hop and the Hip Hop community back in 1999 when he released his debut solo album “Black on Both Sides".Talking about the Hip Hop scene at the turn of the century, here’s some of what then Mos Def had to say in “Fear Not of Man”, the first track on “Black on Both Sides"*It’s a lot of things goin on y’all**21st century is comin**20th century almost done**A lot of things have changed**A lot of things have not, mainly us**We gon’ get it together right? I believe that**Listen.. people be askin me all the time,**“Yo Mos, what’s gettin ready to happen with Hip-Hop?”**“Where do you think Hip-Hop is goin?”**I tell em, “You know what’s gonna happen with Hip-Hop?”**“Whatever’s happening with us”**If we smoked out, Hip-Hop is gonna be smoked out**If we doin alright, Hip-Hop is gonna be doin alright**People talk about Hip-Hop like it’s some giant livin in the hillside**comin down to visit the townspeople**We are Hip-Hop**Me, you, everybody, we are Hip-Hop**So Hip-Hop is goin where we goin**So the next time you ask yourself where Hip-Hop is goin**ask yourself.. where am I goin? How am I doin?*+Hip Hop Never Dies, because as long as you and me acknowledge true Hip Hop acts, it will live on forever.

Mighty Mos displays his inner spiritual power on this classic rhythm. Chant "no fear" in order to destroy the mental prison. Check out my reality rap on Holy Iman - I Swear by Time. Asalamalaykom - Peace be unto you sistren and brethren.

I never heard that particular Fela song... but actually these are Quranic passages recited verbatim in many cases...

Y'all need to check out Fela's song "Fear Not For Man." You can't fully appreciate what Mos is doing here if you don't know the musical allusion.
