Perfectly fair--I wasn't ever contesting the influence of Kreator or any other thrash. We're all responding to a comment that no longer exists, which was about the alleged existence of a pre-Death/Possessed/Morbid/etc *death metal band*. Of course, someone apparently flagged my explanation of that as spam... Basically, I have zero qualms with thrash influencing death, never did. I just took issue with the claim that "Mantas" was older than all FL death metal.11 years ago

I've never heard Kreator referred to as anything but Thrash, or, at least, never, ever as death metal...glancing at Wikipedia and the Encyclopædia Metallum confirms this is the consensus as far as I can see.12 years ago

Huh? Dunn started Mantas in '86. Two or three years after Morbid Angel formed--either in 83 or 84 o.O Which isn't to say his work with Venom wasn't influential, of course, which was definitely earlier. Possessed's first demo 'came out' in '84, too. It kinda splintered all over in that handful of years...12 years ago
