Dutch synth pop from 1978! Mistral were a project by Robbie Van Leeuwen, of Shocking Blue fame (he wrote their biggest hit Venus) and Rick Van Der Linden (formerly of Ekseption). They had three minor hits; Jamie, Starship 109 and Neon City. They used different singers for each track. Here we have Marjan Schattelijn and Mariska Veres on vocals, the latter famous as front woman of Shocking Blue. The Mistral singles had a sexy, futuristic, other-worldly quality about them, very experimental and modern sounding, but with a poppy accessibility at the same time. I especially love the vocal harmonies on Neon City. Sadly, the original Mistral material is not available on cd. The video is from a rare tv appearance on a German tv show. I appologize for the crude video edits - I am not a proffessional clip maker :)
Check out the new video I did for this mix in 2013, too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SODxV9fpGc4&feature=share&list=UUNWxvRSEF2LImN8fBRYULHw&index=6
