My memories of this (achingly beautiful) tune: They were "in session" on R1 - I think it was Peel's show - doing their acapella set. A certain Mr J. Holland was in the building, overheard them & offered to play the joanna on the next track, impromtu. The next three & a bit minutes sums up what was once so great about the Beeb; such a perfect moment as Jools played behind their wonderful voices. I think they signed to Stiff on the back of this spontaneous collaboration. An all time personal fave.

i met the mint juleps in front of the town hall in manchester....during the late 80s,they were brill!,i met anthony h wilson there as well,the mints were top!

Finally I found who this was by, it as been going around in my head for ages, downloaded it off amazon for 69p.

I played bass on this and I still remember the session being really good fun as they were such a nice bunch of people. As I recall we also recorded a version of Lulu's "Shout!"

@esurfer26 Julie and Debbie L are my aunts :) and there both still in bow, East London, making a song for Kylie Minogue :D. The rest of the band are also still in East London and ther'e all fine and doing very well, still have amazing voices!

I remember seeing them perform this on TV - maybe on The Tube or something like that - thought it was wonderful at the time and the decades since have made no difference to my first thoughts - this is a first rate soul sound - thanks to the artists and thanks for posting.

Amazing cover and the 12" vinyl sits proudly on my shelf 20 odd years later. I love Neile Young but this version even outclasses the original. Saw them at an Art Club thing in Exeter about that time and hollered up a request for it but as they were doing a purely accapella set it was "sorry" but they knew the record had owners !!
