Mildred Bailey, popular por ser la voz que acompañó a la orquesta de Paul Whiteman, se hizo famosa con esta versión del Rockin' Chair, de Hoagy Carmichael, que quedó unida a su voz para siempre. Disfrútalo!

Great singing, fantastic vibrato.  She is really jazzy.  My favorite rendition of this tune is by the great Roy Eldridge on trumpet.  This lady is wonderful, wish she were still around. Thanks again for the treat.

The great underrated Mildred Bailey --no "sweeter", more soulful sound, and one of the first white female singers to tap into the true African-American jazz tradition. She married one of the great jazz vibists (Red Norvo). Throughout her life she battled a weight problem and resented younger singers getting gigs just because, she thought, they were younger and prettier. In the end, it was Sinatra who quietly paid her bills after major "troubles." Also, dig the male version by Jack Teagarden.

@jerseyoutcast You`re right!. In 1929, Al Rinker was able to return all the favors by helping out his sister when she threw a house party. He invited his boss, and when Whiteman heard Bailey sing a song he hired her on the spot. And with that hiring, Whiteman became the first national-level orchestra leader to feature a female vocalist -- a historic moment that soon caused “other dance bands in the copycat fashion of show business” to add “female singers too.” Grtz, Aad

@aadjuijn I think it was the other way around. Mildred Bailey is the sister of one of the Rhythm Boys, a group of three young men in the early 1930's with Bing Crosby on the lead. They all came from the state of Washington and Mildred got them some connections when they came down to Los Angeles to seek their fortune.

@ChristophePhilippe Mildred Bailey was discovered by Bing Crosby and also a protege by Bing Crosby ... that says enough to me! Grtz, Aad
